In the burgeoning landscape of the Internet of Things (IoT), real-time decision-making driven by contextual awareness has become a critical research frontier. This paper explores context-aware event processing architectures within distributed IoT environments, examining how event-driven models integrated with edge and fog computing enable responsive and intelligent systems. Existing models face limitations in context acquisition, latency, and decision scalability. We review frameworks and propose an integrated reference architecture combining event detection, contextual modeling, and decentralized decision-making to enhance reliability and real-time responsiveness. Key contributions include a conceptual architecture, a visual sequence diagram of data flow, and analysis of challenges in dynamic context modeling.
