Environmental monitoring systems are increasingly reliant on real-time data from distributed Internet of Things (IoT) sensors. However, traditional cloud-centric architectures pose challenges regarding latency, bandwidth, scalability, and data security. This paper proposes an intelligent edge computing framework that integrates edge analytics, machine learning, and secure communication protocols for IoT-based environmental monitoring. The framework minimizes cloud dependency by leveraging on-device intelligence and distributed processing to enhance response times, ensure data privacy, and scale efficiently. The study presents a comparative analysis of related literature and a proposed model's performance in terms of latency, energy consumption, and accuracy using synthetic and benchmark environmental datasets.
