Edge-Driven Data Engineering Architecture for Resilient Industrial IoT Systems

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) systems face significant challenges in maintaining data integrity, real-time responsiveness, and system resilience under dynamic operational environments. This paper proposes an edge-driven data engineering architecture that decentralizes computation, enhances fault tolerance, and supports continuous data stream processing. The proposed design leverages edge nodes for early-stage data curation, compression, and anomaly detection, complemented by a layered cloud-edge data governance model. This architecture enables low-latency control, robust data availability, and system adaptability. Evaluation of this framework against traditional centralized IIoT models demonstrates significant improvements in throughput, resilience, and energy efficiency.
